Jewel's Pets
The grass is tall and bright under the sunshine, and it waves as gently as the waves on a calm ocean. The valley meadow streatches on for miles it seems, as far as the line of trees will let it. Down the center of the meadow, straight through the tall grass, a narrow dirt path divides the place in two. You follow this path, knowing it'll lead you to the forest and to a place you can eventually rest.
Song birds fly lazily above your head, sometimes swooping down and disappearing into the sea of green. The breeze turns the grass into waves, and the wild flowers into bobbing seagulls. Everything seems so peaceful to you here, and you wish that you could stay longer just to enjoy the scene.
In the distance, you spot a strange movement in the grass. It bobs and weaves, shuttering as if something is tunneling beneath it, leaving behind it a path of disturbed vegetation. You watch it curiously, pondering how large this thing in the grass could be, since the grass itself is almost up to your waist. It continues to advance forward, and before you get a chance to move out of the way, it bursts onto the bare path and straight into you, toppling you over.
After you take a moment to adjust yourself and stand back up, you look down at the thing that knocked you over. It seems that it's just as startled as you are at the collision, and after a moment, it looks up at you with its pink eyes and grins, looking quite sheepish. "So sorry about that, mate," he apologizes, "But I was in such a rush that I just didn't think to check before I crossed the road. Bad habit, you know. Going to kill me one of these days." You smile at his aborable accented voice and his precious markings, and decide instantly that you like him and you forgive him in your very next breath.
"Great, great! Glad to here it, but I really should be going, you know. Busy and all. Come by again and I'll be sure not to run into you so hard." He grins broadly at you and winks before darting back into the grass and heading off on his way. You can't help wondering what he's in such a rush to get to, but at the speed he's going, it's not likely you'll find out any time soon.
